What We Believe
Our Doctrinal Statement does not exhaust the extent of our faith. The Bible itself is the sole and final source of all that we believe.
We do believe, however, that our full Doctrinal Statement accurately represents the teaching of the Bible and, therefore, is binding upon all members of the church(s) established by this ministry under the authority of our sending church. All literature used in the ministry shall be in complete agreement with the Doctrinal Statement.
The Government of this ministry and churches established by it shall rest in its members who compose it including Heritage Baptist Church of Missouri City, Texas who authorizes us to carry out the Lord's work in this field. It shall be subject to no other outside power or group, ecclesiastical or otherwise. We do recognize our need for mutual counsel and cooperation with other churches of like faith and order.
We shall affiliate with churches of like faith in the
AMERICAN BAPTIST ASSOCIATION, as it now stands.
Our Faith
We believe that the Bible, composed of the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments, is the divinely inspired Word of God, the final written authority and trustworthy for faith and practice. It is to be interpreted responsibly under the guidance of Holy Spirit within the community of faith. The primary purpose of the Bible is to point to Jesus Christ, the risen Savior.
Although Baptists have produced numerous confessions to express our common understandings of Christian faith, we hold the Scriptures, the Old and New Testaments, as our final authority. We accept no humanly devised confession or creed as binding.
We affirm that the One True and Living God is sovereign over all and that this sovereignty is expressed and realized through Jesus Christ. Therefore, we affirm the Lordship of Christ over the whole world and His local churches. We joyously confess that Jesus Christ is Savior and Lord. We are called in loyalty to Jesus Christ to proclaim the power of Holy Spirit, the Good News of God’s grace, and to declare the saving power of the Gospel to every human being and to every human institution. We celebrate Christ’s charge to "make disciples of all nations" and to bear witness to God’s redeeming reign in human affairs.
Our Mission
We believe that God has given the local church a great commission to proclaim the Gospel to all nations so that there might be a great multitude from every nation, tribe, ethnic group, and language group who believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. As ambassadors of Christ we must use all available means to go to all the world, preach the gospel to every creature and not wait for them to come to us. (Matt. 28:19-20; Mark 16:15; Luke 24:46-48; John 20:21; Acts 1:8; 2 Cor. 5:20)
Our Vision
Why Go To Belize?
Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God. - 2 Corinthians 5:20
In July 2009, preparing to return home from Belize, I couldn’t get past the overwhelming emotion that I was leaving behind an unfinished work. Back there were spiritually hungry people who have never heard the saving message of Jesus Christ. Missionaries have come before. Why are there so many who have not yet heard? What did these missionaries do while they were there? Where was God in the previous efforts? Wrestling with this, it became clearer to me that the Scriptures are about a God who is present and active in human lives. Almighty God is not essentially somewhere else, but active and present in this world - Visible in Jesus, right? The incarnation of God in Jesus sent the clear message, "I care, and I’m here to do something about it."
As I contemplate the question, another thought comes. Perhaps I’m asking the wrong question. Rather than asking, "Where is God" the better question is posed by God, "Where are you in the midst of all this?" I have answered His call to serve Him and serve the people of Belize, at least until God moves me elsewhere, or is through with me.
Apostle Paul taught this concept in 2 Corinthians 5:20. The local New Testament Church, is the physical representative of God in Christ Jesus on earth (Matthew 28:18-20). If the world wants to know what God is like, the first place it should look is His Church. His Churches are to embody the message and spirit of Jesus. As His representatives, God is fulfilling His plan for this world through members of His Churches who are willing to answer His call, prepare themselves and GO with Him, not apart from Him. His Churches are not only supposed to proclaim the message, they are to live the message of the gospel.
Perhaps the next time we hear God’s tender call and ask, "God, where are You in all this?", if we are quiet enough to hear the voice of God, His reply might be, "I’m right here in the middle of it. Where are you?"
May we be the kind of people who embody the message of Christ for the world, and who run to be God’s hands and feet, reaching out to others with the saving message of Jesus Christ!
Our Purpose
Our purpose is to evangelize the lost, reach the unchurched, and plant/establish indigenous local New Testament Missionary Baptist churches in Belize. As God calls men to the gospel ministry and those men answer His call we will train them in the Word of God, the work of the local church and equip them for the ministry. |
